COMMITMENT

Isaiah 9:6-7  “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  His ever expanding, peaceful government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the LORD Almighty will guarantee this!” (NLT)

Commitment -  qana' (kaw-naw');  to be (causatively, make) zealous, i.e. (in a bad sense) jealous or envious: qin'ah (kin-aw');  jealousy or envy: Zeal  (Webster’s – dedication to a long term course of action; engagement; involvement

The Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ has made a long-term commitment to us; a commitment to rule forever with fairness and justice.  His royal titles affirm to us that He Is exactly who He says He is.  The commitment of Jesus Christ to the children of God is an absolute truth and will be proven right each and every time.

What about our commitment to Him?  Do we have the same zeal (intense enthusiasm, as in working for a cause) for Him that He has for us? NO.  Not even close, despite all that He has given us out of His love, Grace and Mercy, we are too self centered and proud to be truly committed to God.

Many Christians SAY they are committed, but their life gives a much different answer.  They are not involved and they are not active in faith and obedience towards Him.  They are like a kamikaze pilot who went on 30 suicide missions.  He was involved but not committed.

God is not impressed with the many words that come out of our mouth!  He is only looking for the reality that comes from your heart.

Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.”

Proverbs 23:19 “My child, listen and be wise. Keep your heart on the right course.”

Proverbs 26:23 “Smooth words may hide a wicked heart, just as a pretty glaze covers a common clay pot.”

Today we have many Christians who may warm a pew but have no commitment or determination to serve God.  They are quickly distracted and drawn away from the King of kings and Lord of lords by any shining object the world or the enemy swings in front of them.

Maybe it is family, maybe it is community, maybe it is work or service, but whatever draws you from being faithfully committed to God in all aspects of your life is sin.  We must always remember that sin separates us from God.

We must commit our self to God.   We must zealously devote our lives to Him in faith and love to Him and His cause.
