The Belt of TRUTH
This is the second lesson in our study of the Armour of God in Ephesians Chapter 6, verses 10 through 18.
Ephesians 6:14 – “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,”(NKJ)
Truth - aletheia (al-ay'-thi-a); truth: Conformity to fact or actuality; faithfulness to an original or to a standard.
Mr. Webster says that TRUTH suggests conformity with the facts or with reality, either as an idealized abstraction or in actual application to statements, ideas, acts, etc. Sincerity, honesty and genuineness are also aspects of being true, as is any particular belief or teaching regarded by the speaker as a true one. Of two long paragraphs on truth MR/ Webster used 7 words to add, “an established or verified fact, principle, etc.”
Today truth seems to be a relative term. What is true from me may not be true from you. This kind of moral washing is called secular humanism and is running rampant across our country today.
The simple fact is that truth is a person, or more specifically, A TRINITY!
God is truth; the Holy Spirit is truth; and Jesus is truth. They set the standard for all things; God gives us the facts to be true to and we are called to be His Truth in this deceived world.
Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". God is the final, ultimate revelation and definition of truth about all things: Himself, man, redemption, history, and the world. John 1:17 says "The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ"
In the times this was written soldiers used to “gird” up their robes so they could run and maneuver in battle. The long robes of the day would have proven to keep them pretty bound up and be a definite hazard in a war zone.
The “Belt of Truth” is the Truth of Jesus Christ that holds everything together and enables us to run into battle, unhindered by anything that may restrain us from following Him.
